The Outbound Route : Borrioleigh to Killea 11km
The Return Route : Killea to Borrioleigh 13km (via Drom)
Head out Templemore Road from BorrisoleighBurkes Castle will be visible on right hand side
At first junction on left , on templemore road, take a left , then an immediate right
Continue up this road until you read next junction, then head straight
Continue straight at the next junction
At the next junction, take a right towards Killoskehan Castle
As you walk up this road you will pass Killoskehan Castle on your LEFT
At the next junction.. walk striaght ahead
Follow this road , the next cross roads is called Mattie Shepherd’s cross.
There used to be a shop located in the limestone building on this corner , owned by the Shepherds

As you approach the New school in Barnane on your left.. the remnants of BARNANE CASTLE can be seen in the distance on the LEFT
Immediate after Barnane New school located on the LEFT , is the entrance to the Barnane OLD Cemetery.
Barnane Old Cemetery is located in the middle of the field, and here you will find the graves of the CARDENs who were the land owners for most of the land in the area . The lands were known locally as “Carden’s Wild Domain”

At the next junction head straight

At the next junction , head straight towards KILLEA
Just beyond this school is the old Barnane National School
It was established in 1846 by Carden to educate the children of his tennant farmers

Continue on this road towards Killea
At the next T junction on this road take a RIGHT

A little further up this road take a LEFT at the next T junction
You are now about 500m from Killea
At the next junction head Straight you maybe able to see Killea Church

Continue down this road, and you will enter the lovely village of Killea

There is a lovely church in the heart of the village
Further down the village is the graveyard which is also well worth exploring
The route back to Borrisoleigh is approx 13km, but slightly downhill via the village of DROM
Head out of the village, the way you came in, via the hurling field

This road is a lovely one to walk, its a bit downhill and very straight with excellent views

As you wander down this roaad, there is castle on the left
Continue on this road, there are some excellent view over the fields, as you head towards DROM
At the next junction , take a RIGHT

After passing through the village of DROM take a LEFT
At the next junction just before Kitfitmore, take a RIGHT
At the next junction , head straight over the main Borrisoleigh Templemore road
At the next T junction take a LEFT
At the next junction head straight
At the next Junction veer LEFT until you meet the main road, then follow sign back into Borrisoleigh
